Hot foil stamping on leather

Custom brass logo stamp beside its recessed Outpost Workshop impression in tan leather
A custom brass stamp with its blind impression in leather.

Your logo, finished in foil. A custom brass stamp adds metallic or coloured detail to leather goods, journals and book covers.

We machine your design in Liverpool, ready to use with a compatible hot stamping machine and suitable foil. The same stamp can also make a recessed maker’s mark without foil.

Choose your finish

Gold embossing on leather

Gold embossing on leather is commonly achieved by hot foil stamping: heat and pressure transfer gold-coloured foil in the shape of your design. Use the same approach for silver or coloured logos on wallets, bags, belts and tags.

Blind maker’s marks

Press your logo into the leather without foil for a subtle, recessed finish. Often called leather embossing, this indented result is more precisely described as debossing.

Leather book covers

Use foil blocking for a fixed title, monogram or decorative design on a suitable leather-covered journal, notebook or album. Check the cover material and press setup before ordering.

What is a hot foil stamping die?

Your logo in solid brass

A hot foil die, logo stamp or foil blocking stamp is the metal tool carrying your design. Its raised detail presses the foil against the leather. Your logo is machined as one fixed design, ready to repeat across your work.

Changing names or initials?

For different lettering on each piece, use leather letter stamps and brass alphabet sets. Separate characters can be rearranged; a custom logo stamp repeats the same artwork each time.

Get the right setup

A compatible press

Our custom stamps have an M8 mounting thread. For WT-90D and WT-90DS machines, select our hot stamping adaptor kit. For another press, send its model, mounting details and available clearance before ordering.

Check the required die thickness as well as the thread or slot. The design area and available pressure matter too.

Foil suited to your leather

Use a temperature-controlled machine and foil intended for your leather and its finish. Texture and surface coatings affect the result, especially with fine lettering.

Start with the foil supplier’s recommended settings and test an offcut. Adjust temperature, pressure and contact time one at a time.

For a recessed mark without foil, unfinished vegetable-tanned leather can also be stamped with an arbor press or vice. Other leathers may need controlled heat.

Before you order

1. Size your design

View the artwork at the size you want the impression to be. Fine lettering and small gaps need enough space to remain clear on the leather. Add any exact dimensions in Additional instructions.

2. Send your artwork

AI, SVG, EPS and vector PDF files are ideal; clear JPEG and PNG images are welcome. Upload it as you want it to read. Artwork checking is included, and we contact you if changes need agreeing.

3. Check the item

Make sure your press can hold the stamp and support the marking area evenly. For book covers, tell us the material and whether it is a flat panel or an assembled book, particularly near a spine.
